Tesla’s November 2024 Recall

Tesla’s latest recall impacts more than 2,400 Cybertruck models equipped with metal oxide semiconductors or field-effect transistors in the drive inverter. These vehicles were produced between November 6th, 2023, and July 30th, 2024.

The issue stems from a defect in the driver inverter, which may cause the vehicle to stop producing torque. In turn, this could prevent the driver from applying torque to the vehicle using the accelerator pedal – resulting in a loss of propulsion.

According to Tesla, “A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash.”

The Cybertruck is no stranger to recalls – even in its short history.

1st Recall: 1-29-2024

Tesla recalled certain Cybertruck models and Tesla models due to the incorrect font size displayed on the instrument panel for the brake, park, and ABS system warning lights. These models failed to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard’s number requirements for Hydraulic and Electric Brake System (105) and the Light Vehicle Brake Systems (135).

2nd Recall: 4-16-2024

The second recall affected just Cybertrucks. This recall was initiated due to issues with a trapped accelerator, which could cause the vehicle to accelerate unexpectedly. This can significantly raise the risk of an accident.

How Tesla Is Mitigating the Recall

Tesla is planning to replace the defective drive inverter on all recalled Cybertrucks. As with all recalls, the manufacturer is fixing this issue free of charge. Tesla has announced it will send notification letters to impacted Cybertruck owners via mail by January 4th, 2025.
